Replacing HubSpot with Twenty: a modern CRM with no per-seat bill
Contacts, companies, pipeline, follow-ups: what Twenty, the open source CRM, offers compared with HubSpot or Salesforce, and how to take over your sales data.

The CRM is often the most expensive tool per user in a small business. HubSpot, Salesforce or Pipedrive start at a reasonable price, then the bill climbs as soon as you add sales reps or need a feature from a higher tier. Twenty offers another way.
What you really expect from a CRM
In most small businesses, daily use boils down to:
- an up-to-date file of contacts and companies;
- a pipeline of opportunities, from first contact to signature;
- tasks and follow-ups so nothing is forgotten;
- the history of exchanges with each customer;
- a few dashboards to track revenue.
Advanced marketing features, often the reason for the most expensive tiers, are used far less than you might think.
What Twenty does
Twenty is an open source CRM with a modern interface, designed to be as pleasant to use as recent tools.
- Customisable objects: companies, contacts, opportunities, and your own business objects (job sites, contracts, equipment...).
- Table and pipeline (kanban) views, with saved filters and sorting.
- Tasks, notes and attachments on every record.
- Email and calendar sync to find your exchanges.
- API and webhooks to connect it to your other tools, for example with n8n.
The watch point: marketing automation
If your team makes heavy use of HubSpot's email campaigns, lead scoring or landing pages, Twenty alone won't be enough. It is then paired with an emailing tool such as Mautic, or you keep a lightweight marketing component alongside it.
How the data migration works
- Export contacts, companies and opportunities from HubSpot (CSV files).
- Cleaning: duplicates, unused fields, pipeline stages to review. It's a chance to tidy up.
- Import into Twenty, with field mapping.
- A short period of dual use, while the sales team gets used to the new tool.
How much it changes
With a CRM billed per seat, every extra sales rep adds to the bill. Hosted Twenty has no per-user price: the whole team can access it, including administration or management staff who only check in from time to time.
